Next edition of the nationwide Chain Experiment

"Physics touches everywhere," which is why it's worth learning at any age. The best way to do this is by having fun, which in 2018, for the sixth time, will be proven by participants in the nationwide Chain Experiment.

The competition challenge is to build a device that transports a metal ball using as many phenomena and laws of physics as possible. There is no age limit in the competition, and the only limitations are imagination, time and space. All you need to do is assemble a team and submit an application by March 31, 2018.

Competition „The Chain Experiment” is a combination of learning physics with fun and tinkering. The purpose of the competition is primarily to encourage studentsów to use fantasy and twórarity in acquiring knowledge. Needless to say, participation in the competition is an opportunity for great wspól fun, develop skills wspóhe competition is a great opportunity for group cooperation, integration, and, above all, it is an extremely effective way to understand many physical phenomena.

During the grand finale, whichóry will be held on June 9, 2018 at the premises of the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University, the devices will be connected into a single chain that will be activated several times.

Device – headówne guidelines

– The ball transfer should take between 20 and 120 seconds,

– The device must fit on a full-size school bench,

– the level of complexity of physical phenomena should correspond to the age category of the team (kindergarten, elementary school (grades 1-3 and 4-8), high school, students, families),

– the laws of physics can serve zarówell to transport the ball, as well as be triggered by the ball as it moves around.

The jury evaluates the projects and devices taking into account: the number of laws of physics used and their skillful explanation, the degree of sophistication of the machine, as well as ingenuity and aesthetics of execution. Each age category is judged individually and prizes are awarded in each category.

Schedule of the competition

Until March 31, 2018. – ADVERTISEMENT. Submissions can be made via the online form on the Chain Experiment website. After completing it, the organizer sends the metal balls to the team, and the team can start working on the design and implementation of the machine.

By April 14, 2018. – delivery of documentation. After constructing the device, the team sends documentation to the organizer, i.e. the name of the project and a description of how the machine works. The documentation can be supplemented with photo and video materials.

June 9, 2018. – Final in Krakow. Participants come to it with their devices, in order to demonstrate their operation.
